Ingredients
  

Meat
  • 1 lb ground beef preferably 80/20 for flavor
Vegetables
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 1 medium bell pepper diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 medium potato peeled and diced
  • 1 cup peas fresh or frozen
Spices and Seasoning
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp oregano dried
  • 1 tsp salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper freshly ground
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
Others
  • 2 tbsp olive oil for cooking
  • 1 cup beef broth or water

Method
 

Cooking the Picadillo
  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add diced onion and bell pepper, sauté until softened.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  4. Add ground beef, cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  5. Mix in diced potatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  6. Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook for 20 minutes until potatoes are tender.
  7. Stir in peas and cook for another 5 minutes.
  8. Serve hot with rice or tortillas.
